Zala – a forest park of friendship

TD Žirovski vrh

Activity

The forests of Zala lie at the crossroads of three important Slovene regions, namely Gorenjska (Upper Carniola), Notranjska (Inner Carniola) and Primorska (Littoral). One of our many writers, Mr. Ivan Tavčar described its undisturbed nature and beautiful views a long time ago in his various stories, but one stands out among others. It talks about unfortunate love between a noble priest and an attractive farm girl, where love is predestined to a tragic ending. Every day, the story reminds us of the many situations predestined to failure. The most we can do is to turn them in our advantage and learn important life lessons from them.

In the memory of this unhappy love, we shall create a forest of a new beginning, in the spirit of teamwork and mutual understanding, called Zala – a forest park of friendship. There, at 900m height above sea level, we shall begin a life of friendship and mutual understanding, walk through the natural environment of Poljanska dolina forests and start the process of emotions and senses, as well as a new part to understanding ourselves. The experience shall leave a special meaning to each participating individual. Protégées from the Centre for the blind and visually impaired from Škofja Loka will show us innovative approaches to help us strengthen our senses through various activities and mental processes. From materials found in the nature, we will create 3D sculptures of animals. When necessary, we shall also make paths and tracks around the park. Such group creativity will enable perception of the world around us on a different level, especially things we are given and our privileges, in comparison to those who do not have the ability to feel a complete range of senses.

Beside an invaluable experience for the participants and pleasant socializing for the protégés of the centre, the gathering shall have other socially beneficial results. The creation of park Zala shall attract more tourists into the area, which is important for its development. By including secluded farms into the program, we shall enable an easier survival through various additional activities, while a part of the earnings will be given to people with special needs for the purchase of necessary learning and training equipment. Impact tourism thus enables us to co-create a better and more beautiful world in a pleasant way.
